You must keep any vehicle driven on the road in a roadworthy condition, and the MOT test checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards. Please note, that this isn’t the same as having your vehicle serviced and doesn’t check its general mechanical condition. See “Service & Repairs” for more details.
An MOT certificate confirms that at the time of the test, without dismantling, the vehicle met the minimum acceptable road safety and environmental standards required by law. It does not mean that the vehicle is roadworthy for the life of the certificate. The test does not cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox
When can I renew my MOT?
You’ll need to renew your MOT before it expires. The earliest date you can renew is 1 month before it expires – this date is printed on the pass certificate.
